Eating out
Here are some places we like in San Miguel de Allende — many of them because they are in the neighborhood and owned by our friends! Hours and opening can change, so check them out online or be patient and find another place by serendipity.

HEALTHY FOOD/MARKETS NEAR THE BIRD HOUSE AND CASITA LAURITA
NEARBY:
On Mesones St. near Reloj is Bonanza market, which has all kinds of dried goods, yogurts, deli meats, wide selection. (Take a right from house to the end of Loreto, then right to Reloj, left on Reloj to the next block, left on Mesones). Closed Sundays.
On Loreto, just to the right of the house, is a small bodega, where Don Rafael sells water, cold drinks, eggs, some basics.
Further down on Loreto is the artisan market. Take a left and follow it all the way up the stairs and to the right. Inside is the large market with lots of produce stands. Varying quality.
In Guadalupe, there are several places, including cafes with veggie/vegan foods. Go left from the house to Calzada de la Luz. Continue left, crossing the big street (Calzada de la Aurora), then turn right at the first street past that (Julian Carillo). On the corner is Tiende de Gil, which has a lot of produce and other things. To the right of the fork you will see DeliQ on your left, lots of prepared health foods, and there is another shop further down on the right. There are a couple of cafes and also SolTribe, which sells vegan stuff. Wander around the Guadalupe neighborhood for more places.
BIGGER SHOPPING
You can take a taxi (grab one at the end of Loreto at Insurgentes) to El Comer for basic groceries. Fancier with a “Whole Foods” twist is City Market, near there (lots of stuff like soy milk, gluten-free, etc. and generally better produce). Taxi each way should be 70 pesos. Tip the guy putting your groceries in the taxi 10 pesos or so.
